Man Sentenced for Drug Distribution in Sussex County
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — A 25-year-old Bergen County man, Demoy Woolley, has learned his fate after being sentenced to six years in New Jersey state prison for cocaine distribution. This sentence, delivered by Superior Court Judge Janine M. Allen on October 9, stems from an undercover investigation conducted by the Vernon Township Police Department and the Sussex County Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force.
The investigation, which took place during the week of September 29, 2025, revealed that Woolley was attempting to sell cocaine in Franklin Borough. Authorities tracked Woolley's movements, leading to the arrest of an associate involved in completing the drug transaction. The operation was notably marked by the use of surveillance footage, which showed Woolley exiting a vehicle before police later detained the vehicle used in the deal.
Authorities discovered cocaine hidden in the vehicle, which Woolley had organized to sell. In August 2026, Woolley pleaded guilty to third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, admitting to having less than one-half ounce of cocaine. Along with his prison sentence, he earned credit for 371 days already spent in jail. He was also mandated to submit a DNA sample and pay fines totaling $1,205.
This case highlights the persistent issue of drug trafficking in communities across Northern NJ, including areas like Andover Township and Sparta Township, where law enforcement is actively combating substance distribution. Such efforts underscore the importance of safe, drug-free neighborhoods across Sussex County and beyond.
