The Future of Career Training in Morris County
In a significant step forward for career and technical education, Morris County officials, educators, and students gathered recently to unveil the new Career Training Center at the County College of Morris (CCM). This expansive facility, encompassing 46,350 square feet, offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various high-demand fields.
An Open House to Celebrate New Beginnings
The open house held at CCM showcased not just the new building but also the immense potential it holds for high school students across Morris County. Attendees enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere featuring performances by the MCVSD string ensemble, culinary masterpieces crafted by culinary arts students, and informative tours led by student ambassadors. These elements highlighted the depth and quality of the training programs available.
Pathways to Success Through Education
Dr. Anita Champagne, MCVSD Superintendent, emphasized the importance of the share-time programs, which allow juniors and seniors to attend specialized training half the day, accumulating industry-recognized credentials and college credits. “These programs provide a meaningful advantage, equipping students with skills and a clearer vision for their futures,” she stated.
A Strong Community Partnership for Local Students
Leaders from the Morris County Vocational School District and CCM are dedicated to fostering pathways for students transitioning from high school to thriving careers. As Commissioner John Krickus noted, the joint effort between these institutions serves to prepare students for the workforce while lessening the financial burden on families through potential college credits.
Investment in the Future
This new center doesn't stand alone; it’s a core part of a larger hub focused on career and technical education on the CCM campus. Funded with $18.6 million from the Securing Our Children's Future Bond Act and an additional $8.2 million in county support, the center joins others like the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Center and the upcoming Entrepreneurship and Culinary Science Center, making Morris County a beacon for educational achievement.
Applying for Opportunities
The application process for 10th graders is already open, running through February 17, 2026. Interested students can explore the invaluable programs offered through the MCVSD at mcvts.org/mcvsd-programs/share-time-programs, ensuring they stay ahead in their career aspirations.
This initiative not only enriches the educational landscape for Morris County but also sets a compelling example for other regions in Northern NJ, such as Sussex County, Andover Township, and Vernon Township, showcasing the transformative power of educational partnerships.
