Record Attendance Highlights Community Commitment to Veterans
On October 8, Hunterdon County proudly hosted its third annual Veterans Resource Fair, drawing a remarkable turnout of over 100 veterans and military families at Razberry's Banquet Center in Kingwood Township. This year's event featured 60 vendors and service providers, reflecting a strong local commitment to support those who have served in the military. County officials emphasized that this growing participation underscores the community's necessity to connect veterans with vital resources.
A Unified Effort to Support Our Heroes
Hosted by the Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners in collaboration with U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. and the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, the fair showcased numerous organizations dedicated to assisting veterans. Attendees gained insights into health care, mental health services, veterans benefits, and educational opportunities. "Our veterans have given so much in service to our nation," stated Hunterdon County Deputy Director Jeff Kuhl, highlighting the need for continuous support beyond just this single event.
Recognizing Valor and Community Service
Amidst the event’s bustling atmosphere, a special moment took place as Col. Eric Petrevich was honored with the prestigious Soldier's Medal. This recognition, one of the Army's highest for heroism outside conflict, illustrates the valor and service exemplified by military personnel. In addition, Hunterdon County Veterans Service Officer Rich Booth received an American flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol, reinforcing the gratitude for those advocating for veterans’ rights and resources.
Building Lasting Connections
The Veterans Resource Fair isn’t just an annual gathering; it represents an ongoing commitment to veterans and their families. Participants were eager to establish connections with community organizations, fostering a support network critical for navigating post-military life. "Supporting our veterans requires year-round dedication to ensuring they have access to the information, benefits, and assistance they deserve," added Commissioner Susan J. Soloway.
Continuing the Legacy of Support
The fair's success marks significant progress in expanding services for veterans in Sussex County and Northern NJ. It illustrates the importance of collaboration among government agencies, businesses, and nonprofits to create a robust support system for military families. As this initiative grows, Hunterdon County aims to reinforce its promise to empower veterans and keep everyone informed about the resources available to them.
