Two Sayreville Men Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Fleeing Police
MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Two men from Sayreville are facing serious criminal charges after a dangerous police chase led to a crash involving a stolen car. Early Sunday morning, an officer noticed a vehicle with an altered license plate that appeared suspicious.
When the police attempted to pull over the vehicle, it sped away, ultimately careening into a driveway on Thackery Lane, where it struck a parked vehicle and then collided with part of a nearby house. The driver, identified as Matthew Gehring, and passenger Justin Nowicki fled the scene but were quickly apprehended following brief foot pursuits.
Notably, police found drug paraphernalia and burglary tools, including a safe and cash, in their possession. The vehicle had been reported stolen and was linked to a recent burglary at the Delta gas station in Chester Township. Gehring and Nowicki face multiple charges, including possessing stolen property and eluding police. They are currently being held at Morris County Correctional Facility.
