Spread Holiday Cheer: Help Seniors This Christmas
As the holiday season approaches, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, but many seniors in Sussex County may feel overlooked during this joyful time. Project Self-Sufficiency is launching its annual Earth Angels initiative, aiming to provide holiday cheer to more than 100 local seniors who might otherwise feel isolated or unnoticed. This community-driven effort is more than just gift-giving; it’s about fostering connections and showing compassion to our older neighbors.
How You Can Contribute to Earth Angels
Now through November 20, Project Self-Sufficiency is actively seeking donations, ranging from monetary contributions to gift cards and other items, to create festive holiday gift bags. The bags will be assembled by students from the New Jersey Youth Corps’ high school diploma program, who will fill them with goodies such as coffee, cookies, note cards, and more. Gifts can be dropped off or sent to Project Self-Sufficiency at 127 Mill St. in Newton. Remember, checks should be made out to "Project Self-Sufficiency" with "Earth Angels" noted for proper allocation.
Connecting with Our Seniors
Since its inception in 1999 and subsequent adoption by Project Self-Sufficiency in 2017, the Earth Angels program has steadily expanded, reaching out to vulnerable seniors throughout Sussex County, including serviced areas like Newton, Andover Borough, and Franklin Township. Alice Prendergast, the Project Coordinator, notes that this program not only distributes gifts but also opens a dialogue to discover what additional support seniors may need year-round, fostering a stronger community connection.
Make a Difference This Holiday Season
This initiative is a powerful reminder of the impact community engagement can have during the holidays. As you plan your celebrations and shopping lists, consider taking a moment to give back. A small donation or gesture can bring warmth and joy to those who need it most. If you're interested in providing assistance or registering a senior for gifts, reach out to Alice Prendergast at 973-940-3500. Together, let's ensure that no one in Sussex County is forgotten this Christmas.
