Ignite Your Children's Love for Reading This August!

Reading isn't just about picking up a book; it's about the adventure that unfolds with each page turned. This August, the Sussex County Library System (SCLS) invites young readers, aged 2 to 12, to take part in their fun-filled Summer Reading program, 'Reading Rocks'. In partnership with Braen Stone and the Sussex County Miners, this initiative offers an exciting opportunity for children to explore the wonders of earth science, mining, and geology while indulging in the joy of reading.

Program Details and Exciting Incentives

From August 1 to August 31, families can visit any local SCLS branch. The process is straightforward: register, receive a Log Sheet and Reading List, and get ready to dive into the world of books. Children need to read just five books from the designated Braen-Book Reading Lists to earn a special Reading Rocks prize box, filled with goodies that promote learning and playfulness.

This year’s prize boxes include an assortment of engaging items, such as a Braen Stone T-shirt, two tickets to a 2026 Sussex Miners Baseball Game, a notepad and pen, a reusable cup and straw, as well as fun reads like the Quarry Kids and Mighty Machines Diggers books, along with a Boulder Kids magazine. It’s not just about reading; it's about creating memories, fostering friendships, and igniting a passion for discovery.

Kickoff and Community Involvement

Mark your calendars for the exciting Reading Rocks Kickoff Event on July 30 at 10:00 am at the Main Library located at 125 Morris Turnpike in Newton. This lively launch will feature storytelling, music, activities, and valuable information about the program. Encouraging community involvement, the event aims to bring families together and celebrate the joy of reading. Don’t miss out on helping your child discover a treasure trove of knowledge this summer!

Powerhouse Football Programs Gear Up for the 2025 Season's Challenges

Update The Challenge Ahead for High School Football's Elite As the 2025 high school football season approaches, four powerhouse programs are grappling with a change that could redefine their futures. Toms River North, Rumson-Fair Haven, Red Bank Catholic, and Donovan Catholic face the daunting task of replacing significant starting quarterbacks, shifting their dynamics in a sport where consistency often leads to success. New Beginnings Amid High Expectations All eyes are on Toms River North, the reigning Group 5 state champion, now tasked with breaking in a first-time quarterback after enjoying the luxury of seasoned leaders for several years. Rumson-Fair Haven, having recently clinched the Group 2 title, is also venturing into this uncharted territory, introducing a rookie who will take snaps for the first time in three seasons. Regardless of past success, these programs must adapt quickly to maintain their competitive edge. Donovan Catholic's Fresh Perspective Donovan Catholic, fresh off its first losing season in a decade, is hoping that the arrival of junior quarterback Kahden Davis will reincarnate its offense. A product of Seton Hall Prep, Davis brings enthusiasm and experience, with aspirations of making a significant impact on the field. With a focus on a more passing-oriented game, he is quick to express his desire for a high-paced offensive strategy. Coach Dan Curcione sees Davis as a leader who could revitalize the team’s performance. The Quarterback Carousel: A Double-Edged Sword While the introduction of new talent presents an opportunity for growth, it also brings risks. The powerhouses must foster confidence and establish chemistry quickly. These fresh quarterbacks come into a competitive landscape filled with seasoned contenders like Point Pleasant's Jake Clayton and dual-threat star Jason Lajara from Brick Memorial, both poised to capitalize on any missteps from the new starters. Facing the Challenges Directly The challenge of integrating new quarterbacks adds an important layer of complexity to the upcoming season, and these four teams will need to harness their training camps effectively to prepare. Success will hinge not only on the individual talents of these players but also on how they adapt to their roles and work with their coaching staffs. As these football powerhouses embark on their 2025 campaigns, their journey will serve as a captivating story of evolution, resilience, and the unyielding spirit of competition. Fans will be watching closely to see how these transitions unfold and whether these teams can maintain their storied legacies in the midst of change.
