Empowering Sussex County Veterans with Scholarships
The Sparta VFW Post #7248 proudly announces the opening of applications for the 2026 Ralph Rojas Scholarships, aimed at supporting Sussex County veterans and their families. With a total of $31,000 available for the upcoming academic year, these scholarships mark a significant opportunity for local veterans and their dependents to further their education and skill development.
Scholarship Breakdown
This year, the VFW will award twelve scholarships, tailored to meet diverse educational needs:
- One scholarship of $5,000
- One scholarship of $4,000
- Two scholarships of $3,000 each
- Eight scholarships of $2,000 each
According to Bill Miller, the Ralph Rojas Committee Chair, these funds were raised through events like the annual clambake, Christmas tree sales, and generous private donations. This fundraising effort honors the legacy of Korean War Veteran Ralph Rojas while actively supporting the educational aspirations of Sussex County’s veterans.
Who Can Apply?
The scholarship program is open to various applicants, including:
- Sussex County New Jersey veterans
- Spouses and dependents of veterans
- Local students accepted into ROTC programs or service academies
- Active-duty military stationed at Picatinny Arsenal
To apply, candidates must complete an online application available through the Sparta VFW Facebook page, with all applications due by April 20, 2026.
Scholarship Selection Process
Recipients of the Ralph Rojas Scholarship will be chosen based on a committee assessment that evaluates veterans’ status, character, and academic achievement. Personal interviews may be conducted if necessary, and notable is the ability for applicants to reapply annually as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.
The scholarship awards ceremony is scheduled for May 20, 2026, at the Sparta VFW headquarters, allowing the community to celebrate the dedication and educational pursuits of its veterans.
