In an effort to foster economic opportunities, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has announced the availability of $6 million in grants through the Job Opportunities for Building Success (JOBS) initiative. This funding, which aims to support employment for justice-impacted residents, marks the first round of JOBS grants available in 2026.
Governor Mikie Sherrill emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, "The JOBS initiative provides individuals with essential training and employment services along with the opportunity to successfully reintegrate into society." By focusing on providing personalized support, mentorship, and career services, the program is designed to facilitate a smoother transition for residents who have encountered challenges due to their past legal issues.
What Does the JOBS Initiative Offer?
The JOBS initiative is structured to help justice-impacted New Jerseyans gain meaningful employment through various services, including career coaching, vocational training, paid internships, and support to overcome barriers such as transportation and identification challenges. This comprehensive approach ensures participants not only obtain jobs but also sustain them.

The New Jersey labor department plans to award grants to six organizations statewide, each potentially receiving up to $1 million over a two-year period. These organizations will work in partnership with justice-related entities to provide essential employment and retention services.
Organizations interested in applying must submit a letter of intent by March 4, followed by a mandatory technical assistance session. The application deadline is set for April 2, making it imperative for interested parties to act quickly if they wish to contribute to this worthy cause.
