Celebrate Winter Creativity at Sussex County Library System
The Sussex County Library System is excited to announce its inaugural Winter Art-a-Thon, a monthlong celebration of artistic expression open to residents of Sussex County, NJ. Kicking off on February 2, this unique initiative invites artists of all ages to create original artwork inspired by the wonders of winter.
Participants can visit any of the library's branches to collect their 8½-by-11-inch cardstock, which will serve as the canvas for their creations. Senior Library Assistant Amelia Maio, the program's architect, emphasized the importance of accessibility in creativity. “I hope this opportunity allows anyone to create something for themselves,” she remarked, highlighting the library's aim to foster an inclusive artistic community.
Community Engagement Through Art
As submissions are returned throughout February, a winter-themed gallery will emerge in each library branch, showcasing the diverse talents of local residents. This initiative offers participants a chance not only to engage in a creative process but to also connect with their community through shared expressions of winter joy and inspiration.
The Winter Art-a-Thon aligns with the library's mission to serve as a cultural hub for Sussex County, which includes Andover Borough, Newton, Sparta Township, and more across Northern NJ. This program exemplifies how libraries are more than just book repositories; they are spaces for creativity, learning, and connection.
Join the Winter Art Movement
Residents of Sussex County are encouraged to partake in this creative endeavor. Whether you're an experienced artist or a first-time creator, your contributions are welcomed and celebrated. Each artwork submitted will not only beautify the library but also provide inspiration to others in the community.
