The scenic beauty of New Jersey's coastline comes alive every October during the revered Lighthouse Challenge. This much-anticipated event encourages both locals and visitors to embark on a breathtaking road trip across the stunning shores of the Garden State, immersing themselves in the rich maritime history of the region. Held annually on the third weekend of October, the 2025 Lighthouse Challenge will kick off on October 18 and 19, inviting participants to explore historical lighthouses, life-saving stations, and museums from Sandy Hook in the north to Cape May in the south.
What Awaits During the Challenge
This two-day event runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with select locations offering special night climbs on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will receive a stamp booklet upon registering, which includes a small fee of $10 covering a unique souvenir, and each stop visited will earn the participant a stamp in their booklet. Those who complete the entire challenge can look forward to earning a completion sticker and may even enter to win fun prizes!
The Challenge features 11 lighthouses, four life-saving stations, and one museum, totaling 15 fascinating stops. Notable sites include Absecon Lighthouse in Atlantic City and the newly added Spermaceti Cove Life Saving Station near Sandy Hook.
