Discovering New Jersey's Untold Stories
The "Revolutionary Lives: Living the American Experiment Then and Now" exhibit, hosted by the Morris County Heritage Commission, captures the spirit of New Jersey's vital role in the American Revolution. Running from January 9 to January 23 at the Morris County Library, this exhibition highlights the often-overlooked narratives of ordinary people whose lives forged the foundation of a nation. This unique showcase encourages visitors to explore how the experiences of these diverse individuals continue to resonate within modern civic life.
Why the Revolutionary Era Still Matters
As we approach the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, understanding the complex social fabric of New Jersey during the Revolutionary War is crucial. With residents divided among independence supporters, loyalists, and those seeking neutrality, the state saw fierce battles and significant sacrifices. The exhibit sheds light on the intertwined lives of those who housed, fought for, and supported George Washington's army, revealing how their stories of struggle and resilience echo in contemporary dialogues about democracy and civic engagement.
