A Celebration of Local History: Join Morris County's Pathways of History Tour
The Morris County Historical Society is thrilled to announce the much-anticipated return of the Pathways of History Spring Tour, scheduled for May 2 and 3, 2026. Now in its 17th year, this vibrant, family-friendly event offers an unparalleled opportunity for residents and visitors from Sussex County NJ and beyond, including towns such as Andover Borough, Sparta Township, and Newton, to explore more than 30 historic sites and museums across the county.
Explore Historic Sites and Support Local Communitites
Running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, the tour takes place rain or shine, allowing everyone a chance to dive deep into the rich heritage that shapes Morris County. Participants can visit Revolutionary-era landmarks, cultural sites, and industrial heritage museums. The dedicated volunteer organizations behind the scenes have expanded significantly over the years—from just five original sites to over 31 with a volunteer base exceeding 115 individuals. This exemplifies the community's commitment to preserving local history.
New Highlights for a Memorable Experience
This year, visitors can look forward to new additions including the L'Ecole Kinnelon Museum and the Denville Historical Society's Second Union School, which highlight the importance of early education and community learning. Each location invites guests to discover the stories and legacies of our predecessors, rekindling community ties.
Embrace the Journey
Organizers encourage everyone to start their historical journey at any participating site. With three designated tour routes—the Blue Tour on Saturday, the Red Tour on Sunday, and the option to explore both days—families have the flexibility to create their own unique experiences. As the tour approaches, be sure to check out individual organizations’ websites for special programming and events.
A Free Admission Event Not to Be Missed
The Pathways of History Spring Tour is designed to be free of charge, affirming its accessibility to all. It's not just a chance to explore significant sites; it's an invitation to connect with local historians and embrace the stories that define our region. This year's tour is especially significant, coinciding with the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, making it a poignant moment to reflect on the American narrative.
